Blog Traffic Tips

You already have your own website, but now the marketing department is nagging you to have your own blog as well. But someone has got to write it and for a person who has never done it before, that could read like quite a challenge.

So how do you create a blog that will entice visitors to your page and ultimately translate into sales?

Here are a few pointers.

STOP BEING A SALESMAN

The first mistake a lot of CEOs make is carrying on being a salesman.

Your blog is not an advert. You are not going to make a sale as a direct result of it.

What you are hoping to achieve is a loyal readership, who will stay on the page, at least long enough to scroll to the bottom of the article.

You are not there to relentlessly bash them over the head with a sales pitch. Would you choose to read something like that? No!

Your reader wants to be informed and even gently entertained. Try and keep your sentences short and punchy. Check the text back for any grammar errors and make sure it doesn’t ramble.

USE SOCIAL MEDIA

There is absolutely no point in you writing this thing, if you are not going to plug it at every opportunity. But remember context is key.

If you have several social media platforms, ensure that it gets on all of them, but maybe also think about tweaking it so that it suits the tone of each channel.

Blogs can be broken up into bite sized pieces of information and tweeted or published at regular intervals and there are tools to help do this.

USE EMAIL

As much as possible, you want to persuade people to join your mailing list. But in order to woo them to do this, you need to give them something in return.

Whether it is the lure of great tips or classified information, or you are simply planning on bribing them with money off in some way, getting a mailing list together will help boost your blog’s power.

THINK ABOUT THE HEADLINE

Most people will simply give up if the headline to your blog does not look interesting. Try to think like a news editor when ascribing titles to your blogs.

Then keep this up with a snappy sub heading and of course, some stunning visuals.

MAKE SURE YOUR SITE WORKS ACROSS ALL THE PLATFORMS

Remember, more people today will be accessing the internet from their mobile phone.

So, if your site or blog will not load in these formats, then that is potential readers that you have lost. And readers equal customers in the long run.

WHO ARE YOU AIMING AT?

Before you start bashing out your first blog, have a little think about who the target demographic is.

Are they corporate people? Or are they a general readership?

This will help inform you of not only the type of content to choose, but also the tone to take in your blog.
